Overwhelmed with the women’s march today

I attended the women’s march in my town today, and I have been looking at the photos posted online from women in cities all over the world. This has been an amazing day for feminist demonstrations. Here are some of my favourite photos, not taken by me but shamelessly stolen from other people:

The first two photos were taken by a radical feminist friend in Washington and the third is from here. Also see these photos from all corners of the globe. There was even a demonstration in Antarctica. The entire world is standing up against Trump and it’s amazing. I hope all of you had a lovely day demonstrating in your various locations, and let’s keep it up!

  1. This is wonderful! It’s so wonderful to see all these people everywhere turning out and refusing to knuckle under to Trump. This is the high point.

The Twitter account @GenderDiary is just an endless stream at the moment of march photos from all around the world. Africa, Alaska… Very exciting. 😊

I hope there are good organizers especially in the US who can build on this goodwill and passion. Organize effectively, be tactically adroit, and lessen the bad things that are going to come. 🤞🏼✊🏼

  2. Our city led with Indigenous Women and we were asked to march in silent solidarity along the route, and carry our banners. I have never felt anything like this – joyous rebellious spirited women. Beyond labels. Beyond brands. Maybe beyond anything we’ve ever experienced and yet we now know to be true. Women can unite.

    Enough is Enough .

An Italian naturalized citizen – a stranger to me – was with her biracial 20 year old son. We exchanged a few words, gawking over the FANTASTIC signs. She said to us, “What party is this? I want to join this party”.

People shouted,, nodded, talked, enjoyed the camaraderie – it was ASTONISHING and ASTOuNDING.

In our event the people/women cheered and clapped for the policemen. There was no riot gear in sight, only bicycle cops and a couple of motorcycles.

Peaceful Resistance. Women are rising. All kinds of women. Let’s make room.

  4. Of course I had to do a search for “a bunch of dykes”. I bet they named themselves after this incident. (Apologies for the source. It’s what came up.)

I also found their MU page.

  5. I was surprised by how hopeful and determined I felt at the end of Saturday. This is without a doubt the scariest time I have ever experienced, but I can definitely say that I’ve never been prouder to be a woman or a feminist! The march in my city stretched for blocks and blocks. It was peaceful, fun, and, if I may use a slightly poisoned word, EMPOWERING. We have a lot of work to do and it won’t be easy, but on Saturday I knew for sure that it was possible. Thank you to all the women all over the world who felt the same.
